For many people, stones are nothing more than inanimate objects commonly found in rivers. It bothers us that you didn’t think of using stone to paint or do other artworks (lol). At every opportunity, Akie Nakata will collect stones which according to her, have a unique shape. For example, she can paint a small oval stone to resemble a dog or cat with only acrylic paint.

According to Akie, it took a long process to create an animal image on a no more enormous rock than an adult fist. She needed to inspire the form of the stone before deciding to paint it. She never cut a piece of rock to change shape. However, she chooses a suitable stone shape for painting because not all stone forms can be used as material for painting.
